On the morning of 6 April 1966, more than two hundred students and staff at Westall High School in Clayton South, Melbourne, watched a silvery, saucer-shaped object descend into a nearby paddock before rising and speeding away, pursued by light aircraft.

Within hours, witnesses reported that men in uniform had cordoned off the landing site and instructed students and teachers not to discuss what they had seen. The school’s headmaster reportedly called an assembly warning pupils against spreading rumours.

Sixty years on, the Westall incident remains Australia’s largest mass UFO sighting, and one of its least explained. No official record of any military or police involvement that day has ever been produced.
